Heading to Vegas for Mix08
Tomorrow (Tuesday, Mar 4th) i’ll be getting on a flight to Las Vegas for the Microsoft Mix Conference. This is the first time I have attended the event, hoping it is worth the trip. I am also hoping that Microsoft is not going to use this platform to only push their tools. From what I have read about the conference, sessions will range from MS tools to pretty much every facet of the web, from design to deployment. I am mostly interested in emerging web trends, SEO and web 2.0 stuff. I’m going to try to post some pics and a summary on at least one of the days i’m there. The conference is at the Venetian and I’ll be staying there. I did not know the Venetian is an all suite hotel. I called to verify my reservation and the lady told me I have a 750sqft suite with a sunk-in living room, 42″ plasma and a 32″ plasma in the bathroom…works for me.
**UPDATE**
Just checked in…

Race Postponed - Landondega reduced to rubble
Due to track-side catastrophic events (mainly hammers and saws), the slot car race on March 8th has been postponed to a date to be named in April. The new track, Hobby Hills Raceway, is under development and should be in full production within the next two weeks(pics and video below). Let me know if anyone has any suggestions on an April date. I’ll send out a reminder once the date is set.

Took a little ski adventure to Boyne Mountain over the past weekend with Brett and Lindsay. Real nice place, 60 runs, tons of trails, real black diamonds and lots of food.
Brett is a real pro, he beats everyone down the mountain

They’re all good…

But the peach hostess pies are the best!

Got the skinny on these elusive pies? Let me know. I can’t find them anywhere.
Share ThisThe end of an era
As most people know by now, Bobby Knight has retired from coaching. This bringing a storied career to an end and one of the all time great coaches and personalities has stepped away from the game. Many people either love him or hate him. While I do not know much about him as a player, I grew up in the era of his coaching days at Indiana. Me being an avid Ohio State fan, I wasn’t a big fan of him at first. There were many great games and some not so great comments between the two schools during the 80’s and 90’s. But as I grew older I began respecting him more and more as a coach and he simply holds the best press conferences of any human being know to man.
Some good quotes from the General
“If I came in to recruit your son, I would tell you, your wife, and your son, that I will be the most demanding coach your son can play for. ”
“All of us learn to write in the second grade. Most of us go on to greater things.”
“Walking has been ridiculous in college basketball the past 15 years.”
“If I were in charge I’d drug test all you son’s of b*tches, not just the athletes”

We have begun doing a little leg work for our upstairs bathroom remodel. We’ve started pricing out all the components and we are looking at having an acrylic tub liner/surround installed instead of pulling and replacing the entire unit. Mainly because the acrylic won’t show how terribly rusty our water is. Currently we have a two toned shower, rust orange and 70’s yellow…that’s real nice Clark.
Bath Fitter’s came out Tuesday night. They have a really nice product, but that damn salesman…he show’s up 25 minutes late (6:55pm) and must have rung my door bell with his cig. I open the door, let the smoke clear, and he’s standing there looking like Larry Dallas who just left the regal beagle…had a gold chain and pinky ring. He spent the first half hour talking about god know’s what and chewing his gum like he was raised by cattle. Then he proceeded to tell me 78 reasons why he would turn down our business. Excuse me pal, but you came to my house to sell me, not to be an arrogant jerkoff. And when my wife asked you to speed it up a bit, you responded by saying that you would not. Apparently you had no regard for the screaming kids in the background, that coupled with your arrogance and incompetence were making our blood pressure boil. Seriously, have you ever sold anything in your life?
And that my squirrelly little friend is why I will not be using your bathfitter product. I will be going with Wingler and Son’s re-bath product. They showed up, were nice, talked to us like normal people and were head and shoulders above your no personality, never ending spiel.
The bath fitter product is actually top notch, but the sales person that came to my house was not.

RACE POSTPONED - UPDATE HERE
Track: Landondega Raceway - 50ft per lane, two bridges, 1 grand chicane and plenty of twists and turns.
Date: Saturday March 8th, 2008 - practice starts at 1pm, qualifier will begin at 2pm . Time is not set in stone and can possibly be adjusted to fit schedules.
Location: My basement
Entry fee: $10 - payout to top 2 (80%/20%). May adjust this to pay top 3, depending on interest.
Format: 20 lap qualifier, seeds determined by lap times. Once seeds are set, preliminary races will consist of 50 laps (8-10 minutes) and the main event will run a grueling 100 lap endurance race (15-20 minutes of throttle time). When you’re not racing you may be called upon to hold down one of the 4 marshal spots to help keep the dislodged cars on the track and running.
Scale and Cars: We will be racing 1:32 scale slot cars on an SCX brand track. I have 4 different cars that will be available for use. Feel free to bring your own car if you have one or if you want to buy one you can find them on ebay or at your local hobbytown store for $20-$50 a pop.
Feel free to forward this along to anyone you may think would be interested, the more the merrier. We’ll do some beer, bombs and brats.
Leave a comment in the comment box if you think you may be attending.
Thanks,
Joe
